Does wear and tear on the wind turbines cause nature pollution?

Wind turbines at sea have to endure a lot. Raindrops combined with a high rotational speed can cause erosion of the turbine blades. Pieces consisting of fiberglass in an epoxy matrix, and paint can then break off. This is the same material as a polyester sailboat or surfboard. The material is non-toxic, but of course, does not belong in nature. This erosion is especially a problem in older wind turbines.

Today, good solutions are available for this problem, and systematic maintenance is carried out, which prevents most of the erosion. After all, prevention of erosion is better than cure, also from an economic point of view, because repairing blades of windmills at sea is a costly and time-consuming business.
