Fugro Wins Contract for Offshore Wind Farm Site Characterization in Japan

29 June 2024 –Fugro, a leading Geo-data specialist, has secured a site characterization contract for a wind farm development off the coast of Niigate Prefecture, Japan. The consortium of RWE, Mitsui & Co., and Osaka Gas will develop and realize the offshore wind farm, with Fugro’s expertise contributing to the detailed design of future turbine foundations and cable routes.



The fieldwork commenced in May 2024, utilizing Fugro’s jack-up platform, Amberjack, and two vessels, Equator and Mariner. These platforms are equipped with Fugro-owned geophysical, geotechnical, and positioning systems to acquire Geo-data for the project.
Contributing to Japan’s Carbon Neutrality Goal

This project aligns with Japan’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Fugro’s Regional Sales Director, Jerry Paisley, expressed pleasure in working with RWE, Mitsui & Co., and Osaka Gas, highlighting Fugro’s 30-year presence in Japan and its ongoing partnership with RWE globally.
