MHB Wins Contract from Petrofac to Build Nederwiek 1 Offshore Wind Platform for 2GW TenneT’s Project

Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Berhad (MHB) has secured its second offshore wind project, a subcontract to build an offshore substation (OSS) high voltage direct current (HVDC) platform for the Nederwiek 1 project in the Netherlands. This project is part of TenneT’s landmark 2-Gigawatt (2GW) Programme, aimed at advancing clean energy solutions.

The OSS platform consists of a 30,000-tonne topside and a 10,000-tonne jacket. MHB is responsible for the construction engineering, fabrication, mechanical completion, load out and sea fastening, and architectural works on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis. The project is expected to take approximately 36 months to complete, with fabrication starting in 2025 and completion expected by 2028.

This latest project builds upon MHB’s demonstrated commitment and capability in the clean energy sector, having secured the first subcontract for the IJmuiden Ver Alpha project in November 2023 from Petrofac. MHB and Petrofac are also exploring the possibility of collaborating on another OSS project of similar size.

MHB’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Sdn Bhd (MMHE), will undertake the project, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable energy infrastructure development.
