RWE Invests in 1.6 GW Nordseecluster Offshore Wind Farm in Germany

RWE has announced its investment decision for the Nordseecluster, a major offshore wind project consisting of two wind farms with a total capacity of 1.6 gigawatts. The new wind farms are expected to generate approximately 6.5 terawatt hours of green electricity annually, significantly contributing to the decarbonisation of Germany’s industrial sector.

The Nordseecluster will be developed in two phases. The first phase, Nordseecluster A, will see all 44 turbines connected to the grid by early 2027. The second phase, Nordseecluster B, will add another 60 turbines, set to commence commercial operations at the start of 2029.

RWE has already selected the main component suppliers for the project, ensuring a streamlined implementation process in collaboration with its supply chain partners. The Nordseecluster will expand RWE’s portfolio, which currently includes six offshore wind farms off Germany’s coast, by adding two more significant projects.

This decision is a crucial step toward RWE’s ambitious goal of tripling its global offshore wind capacity to 10 gigawatts by 2030.
