SK Eco Plant and SK Ocean Plant Partner with CIP for 1.5GW Ulsan Floating Offshore Wind Project

SK Eco Plant and SK Ocean Plant have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Haeul-i Offshore Wind Power Co., Ltd., a corporation managed by global green energy investment firm Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), to collaborate on the production, transportation, and installation of floating bodies for the ambitious 1.5GW Haeuli Offshore Wind Power Project in Ulsan.

The MOU was signed on May 31 at SK Eco Plant’s headquarters in Susong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. The ceremony was attended by key officials, including Kim Jeong-hoon, CEO of SK Eco Plant Solutions BU; Lee Seung-cheol, CEO of SK Ocean Plant; and Jonathan Spink, CEO of Haeul I-Offshore Wind Power Co. Ltd.

The Haeuli Project aims to develop a 1.5GW floating offshore wind power complex in the waters off Ulsan, marking a significant step in expanding South Korea’s renewable energy infrastructure. Under the agreement, SK Eco Plant will leverage its extensive experience in marine construction and engineering to transport and install the floating substructures manufactured by SK Ocean Plant.

SK Ocean Plant is currently building a specialized production base for offshore wind power structures in Donghae-myeon, Goseong-gun, set to be completed by the end of 2026. This facility will enhance its capacity to produce various offshore wind structures, including both fixed substructures and floating bodies.

Seung-cheol Lee of SK Ocean Plant highlighted the anticipated growth in the floating offshore wind power market post-2027, emphasizing the company’s ambition to become a global leader in this field. Kim Jeong-hoon of SK Eco Plant noted the strategic synergy between the two companies, aiming to bolster their influence in the offshore wind power sector.
