ABPmer to Lead Marine Physical Process Assessments for Thistle Wind Partners’ 2GW Ayre and Bowdun Offshore Wind Farms

ABPmer, a leading marine consultancy, has been commissioned by Thistle Wind Partners to conduct marine physical process assessments for the 2GW Ayre and Bowdun Offshore Wind Farms, located off the coast of Scotland.

The Ayre and Bowdun projects, with a combined capacity of 2GW, are expected to generate enough electricity to power 2.4 million households, making a significant contribution to Scotland’s transition to renewable energy. Thistle Wind Partners, a renowned renewable energy developer, is driving the projects forward, with ABPmer’s expertise playing a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of the wind farms.

ABPmer’s team of specialists will utilize advanced modeling techniques to simulate the wave, hydrodynamic, and sediment transport environment of the wind farm areas. This will provide a thorough understanding of potential impacts on the wind farms and coastal processes, ensuring the projects are designed and implemented with the utmost care for the environment.

The marine physical process assessments will cover a range of aspects, including wave and hydrodynamic modeling, sediment transport modeling, and coastal process assessments. By conducting these assessments, ABPmer will help Thistle Wind Partners to optimize the wind farm design and layout, identify and mitigate potential risks and hazards, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

The consenting process is expected to be completed in 2025, with construction slated to begin in 2029. As Scotland continues to push the boundaries of renewable energy, the Ayre and Bowdun Offshore Wind Farms represent a significant milestone on the journey towards a net zero future.

ABPmer’s involvement in the project demonstrates the company’s commitment to supporting the development of offshore wind energy, which is crucial for reducing carbon emissions and achieving a sustainable future. With its expertise and experience, ABPmer is well-positioned to contribute to the success of the Ayre and Bowdun projects, and to support the growth of the offshore wind industry in Scotland and beyond.
