Edison and Blunova Partners to Develop 975 MW Offshore Wind Farm in Sicily

29 June 2024 –Edison, a leading energy company, has signed an agreement with Blunova SpA to jointly develop a 975 MW floating offshore wind project off the coast of Sicily.

The wind farm, owned by Wind Energy Pozzallo SRL, will be located over 25 km off the coast of Pozzallo in Sicily. The project, currently awaiting authorization, is expected to contribute significantly to Italy’s renewable energy growth targets and decarbonization efforts. The plant’s estimated annual CO2 emission reduction is over 780,000 tons.

Edison has acquired 50% of Wind Energy Pozzallo’s shares, entering into a partnership with Blunova SpA. The agreement aligns with Edison’s growth plan to increase its green capacity from 2 GW to 5 GW by 2030. The partnership will leverage the professional skills of both companies to continue the authorization phase and execute design engineering studies.

“We are happy to announce this partnership with Blunova for the development of an ambitious and innovative project, such as floating offshore wind power,” comments Marco Stangalino, Vice President and Director of Power Asset Edison.
