RWE inaugrates its Largest Onshore Wind Farm in France

RWE has inaugurated its largest onshore wind farm in the country, located in the Aisne department of Hauts-de-France. The Nouvions wind farm boasts 11 Nordex N149 turbines, each with a capacity of 4 MW, totaling 44 MW and making it RWE’s most powerful wind farm in France.

The wind farm will supply approximately 19,000 households with green electricity annually, contributing to France’s transition to a low-carbon economy. The Nordex N149 turbines, standing at 179.5 meters tall, are the first of their kind to be installed in France, demonstrating RWE’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

RWE prioritized environmental integration, implementing measures to protect local wildlife, including bird and bat conservation efforts. The company collaborated with an independent research unit to assess the potential impact on bird life and implemented measures to protect bats. Additionally, RWE renovated the Nouvion-et-Catillon church and planted trees in Nouvion-le-Comte, demonstrating its commitment to local engagement and community development.

“The inauguration of the Nouvions wind farm reflects RWE’s commitment to accelerating the deployment of new solar and wind projects in France, while continuing to develop our existing green portfolio,” said Katja Wünschel, CEO RWE Renewables Europe & Australia. “Our priority remains to lead an energy transition that benefits everyone, while maximizing advantages for local residents.”
