Sif Begins Manufacturing Monopile Foundations for Empire Wind 1 Project

29 June 2024ย โ€“Sif has announced the commencement of manufacturing monopile foundations for the Empire Wind 1 project. This milestone follows the signing of a power purchase agreement between Equinor and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) for the project.

The Empire Wind 1 project is one of the first offshore wind projects in the United States, aimed at providing renewable energy to power approximately 500,000 homes in New York. Sif’s contribution to the project includes the supply of 54 monopiles and transition pieces.

Production of the monopiles is scheduled to start in July 2024 at Sif’s new factory on the Maasvlakte site. The first steel plates for the project have already been delivered to the site, and the first Transition Piece is currently being manufactured in Roermond.

Sif is proud to be a part of this significant project and looks forward to starting production of the monopiles in their new halls next July. This development marks a crucial step towards realizing the Empire Wind project and contributing to a sustainable future for generations to come.
