Siemens Gamesa Awarded Type Certification for 15MW Wind Turbine
June 26, 2024 –Siemens Gamesa has achieved a significant milestone with the receipt of type certification from TUV Nord for its 15MW wind turbine, the SG 14-236 DD. This achievement follows a year of rigorous testing, including the successful production of first power from the prototype at the Oesterild test site in Denmark in March 2023.
The SG 14-236 DD boasts a 236-meter diameter rotor and utilizes Siemens Gamesa’s innovative Power Boost technology, increasing its capacity from 14MW to 15MW. This results in an impressive 30% increase in annual energy production (AEP) compared to its predecessor.
The turbine has already secured an impressive 8GW-worth of orders, with notable projects including RWE’s 1.1GW Thor offshore wind project off Denmark and Orsted’s 2900MW Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm off England.
The SG 14-236 DD is set to play a significant role in driving the global transition to renewable energy, solidifying Siemens Gamesa’s position as a leader in the offshore wind industry.
